Đồng hồ đo độ cứng cao su, nhựa theo tiêu chuẩn JIS K 6253 (new JIS) được bắt đầu từ năm 1993, nó thì tương thích với tiêu chuẩn quốc tế ISO. Đồng hồ đo độ cứng theo tiêu chuẩn này có 03 loại: Loại A cho độ cứng trung bình, Loại D cho độ cứng cao, Loại E cho độ cứng thấp.
